Schleich Wildlife African elephant, male

Elephants' memories are legendary. Even after many years, an elephant can still remember where to find watering holes or recognize other elephants from which it was separated. The males grow significantly larger than the females. At nearly four meters, they are the largest land animals after giraffes. Weighing five to six tons, they are the heaviest of all land animals. Usually, young male African elephants leave the herd after about twelve years. By then, they are large enough to find their own food and defend themselves. They then roam around alone or with other males in search of another herd.
