FW26 Trend: Why Jordy Vaesen Chooses Quirky Finishes

maandag 13/04/26

As a fashion designer and content creator, Jordy Arthur Vaesen knows exactly what leaves a lasting impression both in fashion and interiors. For Autumn/Winter 2026 (FW26), he’s betting on details with character: playful finishes, strong materials, and striking textures. In short: high-quality quirky finishes with personality.

A mug with an unexpected shape, a pair of jeans with a detail you only notice up close, or ceramics that are slightly imperfect according to Jordy Arthur Vaesen, the next big trend isn’t about bold statements, but about character-driven details.

It’s no coincidence that for FW26 he highlights high-quality quirky finishes as the trend: premium materials, playful finishes, and designs that surprise just enough without going over the top.

“It’s about objects with a story, not a clown show”

Goodbye Beige Uniformity

According to Jordy, this shift is no coincidence. In recent years, platforms like Instagram and TikTok have made everything start to look the same. Beige on beige. And more beige on top.

And now? People are craving less copy-paste and more character.

Today, Jordy sees the opposite happening:
“There’s a clear need for more humanity and imperfection,” he explains.

You can see this in both fashion and interiors. Where color used to make the difference, texture and shape are now increasingly taking over that role.

Texture Is the New Color

For Jordy, it’s not just about how something looks but how it feels. Linen that wrinkles, ceramics with an uneven glaze, or leather that becomes more beautiful over time: it’s exactly that imperfection that makes a product more interesting.

“Texture adds volume and personality,” says Jordy. “Color can sometimes feel flat. Texture makes an object more human.”

And that’s something you can literally feel. Materials shouldn’t just look good they should feel good too.

Not Gimmicks, But Craftsmanship

But not every eye-catching detail equals good design. According to Jordy, the difference lies in craftsmanship. That’s why natural materials are gaining ground again: not perfectly polished, but with visible technique and quality.

“A real quirky finish isn’t a gimmick,” he says. “It’s something well made. Something you want to keep.”

And that’s where the true value of this trend lies: pieces that feel playful, yet are strong enough to remain relevant over time. Think of that vase at your grandmother’s house, passed down from generation to generation.

What Does This Mean for Retailers?

In short: don’t overdo it. According to Jordy, retailers who want to experiment with this trend don’t need to completely reinvent their collections. Start small with accessories, shoes, or objects that add character without overpowering.

A statement mug, a bag with an unexpected shape, or a basic piece with a subtle twist can already make a difference.

“Your basics stay your basics. Quirky pieces are accents that draw attention,” he explains.

And that’s exactly where the strength lies: enough personality to stand out without becoming too much.
